We are a music production company in Brooklyn, NYC that specializes in capturing live performances in high-quality studio audio and HD SLR video. Our artists include a diverse range of international artists with major label credits, in genres including Neo-Soul, Funk, RnB, Jazz, Roots Reggae, and World Music.

We offer several services including recording packages, beat conversion, bookings, a catalog of over 20 different styles of music for singers, MC's, and other vocalists to choose from, industry events, and a weekly writing night for session musicians.

We believe in charitable acts, and our team of professionals and interns work pro bono. In this blog you can peek into our world, and see the work and fun behind the high-quality products we produce for the virtuosic artists we have the pleasure of working with.

We Breed Virtuosity.

With access to so many amazing acts, HighBreedMusic is helping to expand their reach by adding them to our new Video Series. The staged, single camera videos of artists’ latest singles, or simply moments of impromptu inspiration, are built to instantaneously garner new fans and gain momentum for the best of HighBreedMusic talent so far.

Last nite HBM welcomed Mariella, the co-host of the renowned Freestyle Mondays in Manhattan. Her magnetic vocals set the tone for the shoot and made for a great short we’ll be posting soon.

As always, adieu for now- great music calls..!

The Morning of Marles

Fishkrakkah here.  I was getting dressed this morning when I realized that, somehow, i’m going to need to raxx the laundry card.  It’s not that I didnt bring enough clothing, but rather that I only own one pair of pants, ever since i accidentally put a wet paint roller in the wash with my jeans.  Logistically, the story is complicated, so i’ll just point out that it was untintentional, and that now i live forever in the valley of pants sudden-death.  Walking the tight-rope.  They’re starting to waft wierd at me, and accumulate a Jackson Pollock-y network of beer and foodstains throughout the crotch-to-knee canvas area.

Beyond that, work is good.  Secrets abound.  Shhhhhh.  Winking emoticon.

I’ll talk to you soon.

Many words,

Fishkrakkah.

Canadian Illuminations, and Presidente on Holiday (because business trip doesn’t rhyme)

As we don’t mic the individual toms when we record drums, and just employ two dazzling Coles ribbon microphones as overheads, we have to isolate the drums digitally, and then bring them to their full potential.  Thus, the insane ninja drumming of So Disrespectful’s Dean James is quite a chore to discern, as he hits toms like hummingbirds flap wings.  This has been the bulk of my audio work lately, and the tracks are really shaping up.  The Khan is in his native Montreal for the week, contacting contacts, and promoting promotions, with a little fun on the side I hope.  My own visiting Canadian friend took some pictures of the rest of the HighBreed team today in our resident building 345 Eldert St. in the heart of Bushwick, Brooklyn, NYC; so that you may all see us in our zen glory.  A few of the shots are up here on our blog.  New York certainly witnessed a shot of life with the 80 degree (21 in Canada) weather, and I am appropriately reminded of Leonard Cohen (another Montreal native) and how the famous romantic described women on the first hot day of Spring, “..they peel like fruit.” Indeed, Monsieur Cohen.

More Vibrations Soon,

Scattay

Always Meeting

It’s 2:16 in the morning and The Khan is having a meeting with videographers Andreas and Dwain. The footage from the GROUNDFOOD and Toni Menage sessions (to name a few) is pretty dope and anticipating the final product has us all bubbling. There is never a dull moment here.

I office-nerded out earlier getting the administrative stuff organized. The hanging file folders came today :-D Yes, yes. It excited me.

Don’t judge.

The rings are swinging above me (everyone needs a good stretch) and talk of the next artist in addition to a preview of his music…wooo boy. Forgive me if I overuse the word “excited” but the late hour prevents me from scanning for a more powerful adjective.

There’s nothing about HBM that isn’t exciting. Work hard. Listen Hard. We’re breeding.

It is interesting to watch the various creative processes that musicians take in trying to create their sound. I sat with a rapper yesterday who had an addictive thrill for the smell and sound of a recording booth, morphing into a different character once inside. I watched another musician belt out a song simply by wrapping his emotional self around the track, finding inspiration in his internal moment, eyes closed, forgetting about the world in front of him. A piano player/producer feverishly jotted down the music in the picture post above here at The Breeding Ground, dictating the entire session to his band mates. His aggressive orchestrating didn’t bother his mates because they exhibited an unspoken trust in his guidance. My point in this Sunday blog conversation is good music usually comes from a deep passion or conviction somewhere inside and I  get a rush every time I witness its creation in all of the different environments here at The Breeding Ground. Happy Sunday to all, Peace.

Vitacolonna where the hell are ya! As we continue to read through countless intern applications i had a nostalgic moment remembering our first NYC intern, Jutuu, also known as John to you Americans. Who would have thought that, despite the need to calculate a daily amount of property damage liability for Jutuu, we would miss the slapstick humor and random acts of effort that further reinforced the comedy that is Vitacolonna. I clown him now but being an intern has its ups and downs and laughter makes the damages easier to stomach. Lol, Come back to us Jutuu!
